évora high-speed train station | évora | portugal
2008 design and build competition with eduardo souto de moura (1st place)

The Évora High-Speed Train Station, designed by Eduardo Souto de Moura and Adriano Pimenta for the ELOS consortium, reimagines the historical aqueduct as a contemporary infrastructure element. Just as aqueducts once crossed the landscape to bring water to cities, and viaducts today span terrain for highways, this future station serves as a symbolic and functional link between cities through high-speed rail. Inspired by Évora’s own architectural heritage, the project proposes a linear, elevated form integrated with the Alentejo landscape, creating a new urban landmark and a gateway to the region.
