lavradio train station | lavradio | portugal
2009 design and build competition with eduardo souto de moura

What could be seen as a “non-place”, a leftover space, an interstice between five poles, may, in fact, become the very opposite: the center of a new emerging geography.
Between the new Quimiparque Urban Plan, the Container Park, the Quimiparque Industrial Zone, Lavradio, and the Urban Center of Barreiro, we proposed a Park, crossed by rail and road lines, serving as a roof for the Lavradio Station.
To have purpose and meaning, parks must be traversed by users from surrounding areas. With Lavradio Station, ideally suited for this role, it is possible to ensure the convergence of people toward this “place,” affirming the centrality of this new urban fragment, which is the focus of the Lavradio Station in this competition.
